Rougham's Memorial
Those who served at Rougham will not be forgotten
More than a year has passed since the Rougham Airfield Memorial was dedicated. Since then, more and more plaques have joined the single plaque that was in place at the time of the dedication. And several more are being worked on at the moment, but there is still space for more! See the plaques here
Central plinth of Memorial is surmounted by engine of 94th BG
B-17 'Hello Mr. Maier', recovered after ditching in North Sea.
The plaques may honor anybody who served at Rougham in any capacity at all: ground crews; aircrews, or support units. That includes civilians, such as the Red Cross, and other allied services, such as the R.A.F.. They may commemorate: individuals, dead or alive; a specific aircraft; a squadron, or a ground support unit.
Plaques are durable heavy weight bronze well able to resist the English winter weather and periodic cleaning. For uniformity of appearance, all are of the identical dignified style and size.
If you are interested in ordering a plaque, please send an outline of your requirement, handwritten or typed, to: C.John Adams, 20 Chestnut Street, Apartment N-17, Exeter, NH 03833
Telephone.: 603-580-5872 E-mail: cjohna@aol.com
Generally, it is not worthwhile to use up limited space by mentioning to the 94th Bomb Group as that is clearly identified on the central plinth. But for other Groups, e.g. 322nd BG, that would be important.
Please remember that the process of casting a 9 x 5 inch embossed bronze plaque does not permit very small letters -- or anything more complex than is shown in the above examples. KEEP IT SIMPLE! See examples of existing ones here.
Cost of each plaque is $242. The producer in Maine ships it by air freight to Rougham for a cost of $60 (subject to change). There is no sales tax as it is shipped overseas. Total cost is currently $302.
The producer will submit a final production proof and invoice to the donor for review and approval. Do this carefully as your errors will be cast in Bronze! Payment is to be made, prior to casting, directly to the producer, not RTA. Payment may be by check, money order or credit card. For added security, it is better to provide the credit card details by telephone rather than by mail.
Allow 6 to 8 weeks from date of receipt of payment to installation on the Wall of Remembrance.
The Rougham Tower Association will mount the plaque on the Wall of Remembrance, and will send a photograph of it in place on the Wall to the donor.
The donor pays only the producer’s costs - nothing goes to RTA. It has taken on the responsibility of constructing and maintaining the Memorial as a 'labor of love' in honor all who served at Rougham.
