Directions

Rougham field lies just east of Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk. It is about a mile from Rougham village, on the opposite side of the A14.

The easiest way of reaching us is via the A14. The new junction 45 (Rookery Crossroads) has now been opened, giving access to Rougham Industrial Estate from both directions on the road. Turn north off the A14, the opposite side from the Ravenwood Hall Hotel. You will almost immediately come upon General Castle Way. The maps below might take a little while to be updated - the road that crosses the A14 is now the new junction.

Here is a close-up view of the area, from Streetmap, showing the industrial estate that now covers much of the airfield land. The Tower is the lone building slightly separated from the rest, at the top of the cluster of buildings. You can also see the 'Flying Fortress' pub at the top of this map (marked 'PH'), as well as the general shape of the old airfield and perimeter roads. Here's a wider view, and a really wide view.

Here is another link, this time to a Multimap view which clearly shows the outline of the old airfield: click here to open it. When you're there, click on the 'Aerial' icon above the map to get an aerial photo of the site.

Maps

This map (click me - map 1) is old enough to be out-of-date, but it does show the extent of the airfield as it used to be. (note- the A45 shown here is now the A14) (850x600 px)

This map (click me - map 2) shows the various sites around Rougham airfield. (750x512 px)

This map (click me - map 3) shows the sites and various points around the field, marked according to their functions. (1000x773 px - apologies for the size, but if it was any smaller you wouldn't be able to read the writing!)

The map below (map 4) shows what is left of the airfield concrete interstructure, comprising the runways and perimter tracks, in 2002. Remaining roadways are marked in green. The intersection of the runways and the last remaining hardstanding are the largest areas.
